No deposit was a game-changer

We've rented cars all over Europe and the Canary Islands, but 4Drive's no deposit policy was a first for us. Picked up a Seat Ibiza automatic at Tenerife South Airport - paid with our debit card, no hold, no fuss. The car was spotless, full tank, and we drove it up to Teide National Park without any issues. Returning it was just as smooth. Will definitely use 4Drive again when we come back in winter.

Perfect for exploring the whole island

Rented a Toyota C-HR for two weeks over Christmas. We wanted something comfortable for longer drives - Masca, Los Gigantes, Anaga - and the C-HR was ideal. 4Drive's full insurance gave us peace of mind on those narrow mountain roads. No hidden charges at drop-off. Great value for money, especially compared to the big international brands at the airport.

No credit card needed - brilliant!

We don't use credit cards, so finding a rental company in the Canaries that accepts debit was huge. 4Drive delivered the car to our hotel in Los Cristianos, we paid cash, and off we went. The car (Opel Corsa) was perfect for beach runs and drives around the south coast. Returned it with a full tank and got our receipt instantly. Zero stress.

Ideal for families

We booked a Seat Arona SUV with two child seats for our holiday in Gran Canaria. 4Drive installed the seats perfectly - rear-facing for our toddler, booster for our six-year-old. The car had plenty of boot space for our luggage and beach gear. We drove to Maspalomas, Roque Nublo and Puerto de Mogan without any problems. Highly recommend for families travelling with young children.

Free cancellation saved us

We had to change our flight dates last minute due to a family emergency. 4Drive's free cancellation policy meant we could rebook without losing a penny. When we finally arrived in Lanzarote two weeks later, they had a Fiat Panda waiting for us at the airport. Small car, big reliability. Perfect for exploring Timanfaya and the northern beaches. Thank you 4Drive for being so flexible.

Great for summer sun

Rented a VW T-Roc Cabrio for a week in Tenerife in August. Driving with the roof down along the coast road from Los Cristianos to Los Gigantes was unforgettable. The car was immaculate, air con worked perfectly, and 4Drive's full insurance meant we didn't worry about a thing. Only minor point - would have liked GPS included, but we used our phone and it was fine.

Transparent pricing

What you see is what you pay. No hidden fees, no upselling at the desk, no surprise charges when we returned the car. We paid EUR 27 per day for a Seat Ibiza automatic - full insurance, unlimited mileage, everything included. Drove from Puerto de la Cruz up to the Anaga mountains and back down the coast. The car handled the steep roads beautifully. Will book 4Drive again next summer.

Best choice for La Palma

La Palma is a driver's paradise and 4Drive made it easy. Rented a Toyota C-HR at the airport and spent a week exploring Caldera de Taburiente, the Roque de los Muchachos observatory, and the volcanic trails in the south. The SUV was perfect for the winding roads. Full insurance gave us confidence on the hairpin bends. Fuel is cheap on the islands, so we barely noticed the cost. Excellent service from start to finish.

Very good - minor wait at pickup

We arrived at Tenerife South late on a Friday night and had to wait about 20 minutes for our car. Not a big deal, but after a long flight it felt longer than it was. Once we got the keys, everything was smooth. The Opel Corsa was clean and reliable. We drove it to Costa Adeje, Masca, and Los Gigantes without any issues. Would rent from 4Drive again - just maybe not on a Friday night!

Perfetto per le Canarie

We rented a Seat Arona for ten days in Gran Canaria. The compact SUV was ideal for the mountain roads to Roque Nublo and Tejeda. 4Drive's no deposit policy was a pleasant surprise - we paid with our debit card and drove away. Full tank on pickup, returned it full, no questions asked. The price was very competitive compared to other companies at the airport. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the Canary Islands.

Reliable and affordable

We've used 4Drive twice now - once in Tenerife and once in Lanzarote. Both times the cars were reliable, clean, and good value. This time we rented a Fiat Panda for beach hopping around Costa Teguise and the Papagayo beaches. The car was small but nippy, perfect for parking in tight spots. Full insurance meant we didn't stress about scratches. We'll be back for a third rental next winter.

Hotel delivery was brilliant

We didn't fancy queuing at the airport after a 5am flight, so we booked hotel delivery to our resort in Costa Adeje. 4Drive dropped off a Seat Ibiza at 2pm as promised. The handover took five minutes - checked the car, signed the paperwork, and we were off. Returned it to the same spot three days later. Such a convenient service, especially for short stays. Will definitely use this option again.

Why Our Customers Choose 4Drive

The reviews above highlight the key reasons travellers across Europe choose 4Drive for their Canary Islands car rental. Our no deposit, no credit card policy removes the biggest pain point of traditional car hire - the large hold on your account that ties up hundreds of euros for the duration of your trip. With 4Drive, you pay only what you owe, by debit card or cash, and your money stays in your pocket.

Full insurance is included on every rental, covering collision damage waiver (CDW), theft protection, and third-party liability. There's no excess to worry about, no upselling at the counter, and no surprise charges when you return the car. What you see on our website is what you pay - transparent pricing, every time.

Our free cancellation policy gives you flexibility. Plans change, flights get moved, and life happens. If you need to cancel or amend your booking, you can do so up to 24 hours before pickup without penalty. And if your flight is delayed, just let us know - we'll adjust your pickup time at no extra cost.

Pickup and Drop-Off Locations

4Drive operates across the four main Canary Islands: Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and La Palma. You can collect your car at any of the major airports - Tenerife South (Reina Sofia), Tenerife North (Los Rodeos), Gran Canaria (Las Palmas), Lanzarote (Arrecife), and La Palma (Santa Cruz) - or request delivery to your hotel in key resort areas like Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas, Puerto de la Cruz, Maspalomas, Costa Teguise, and Puerto del Carmen.

Airport pickups are fast and efficient. Our desk is located in the arrivals hall at each airport. Simply present your booking confirmation, driving licence, and passport, and we'll hand over the keys. The whole process takes around ten minutes. If you prefer hotel delivery, we'll bring the car to your accommodation at a time that suits you - ideal for families or anyone who wants to skip the airport queue after a long flight.

Our Fleet

Our fleet ranges from compact economy cars like the Fiat Panda (perfect for solo travellers or couples on a budget) to spacious SUVs like the Toyota C-HR (ideal for families or longer island tours). We also offer automatic transmission across most categories, essential for drivers not used to manual gearboxes or anyone tackling the steep mountain roads to Teide, Roque Nublo, or the Caldera de Taburiente.

For a special touch, rent our VW T-Roc Convertible - the ultimate car for open-top coastal drives along the sunny southern shores of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Every car in our fleet is less than three years old, fully serviced, and cleaned between rentals. We provide a full tank of fuel on pickup and ask that you return it full - simple and fair.

Driving in the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands drive on the right-hand side of the road, the same as mainland Spain and the rest of Europe. Speed limits are 120 km/h on the main motorways (TF-1 and GC-1), 90 km/h on rural roads, and 50 km/h in towns and villages. The islands have excellent road infrastructure - the coastal motorways are wide, well-maintained, and easy to navigate.

Mountain roads are a different story. Routes like the climb to Mount Teide, the descent into Masca gorge, and the loops through Anaga Rural Park are steep, narrow, and winding. Take your time, use the gears to control your speed, and pull over at viewpoints to let faster traffic pass. The scenery is spectacular, but these roads demand concentration.

Parking is straightforward. Blue zones in resort towns require payment during the day (usually 9am - 8pm); rural villages and national park car parks are free. Fuel is notably cheaper than mainland Europe thanks to lower local taxes - expect to pay around EUR 1.20 per litre for unleaded. Petrol stations are plentiful in towns, but fill up before heading into the mountains or remote areas.

Documents You'll Need

To rent a car with 4Drive, you must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid driving licence that's been issued for at least one year. If your licence is from the EU or UK, it's valid across the Canary Islands. If your licence is from outside the EU, we strongly recommend bringing an International Driving Permit (IDP) as well as your original licence. You'll also need your passport for identification.

Payment can be made by debit card, credit card, or cash. We don't place a hold on your account - you pay the rental cost upfront, and that's it. No hidden fees, no deposit, no unpleasant surprises when you check your bank balance later.

Explore the Canary Islands by Car

The Canary Islands are made for road trips. In Tenerife, drive from the black beaches of the north coast up through pine forests to Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak. Stop at the cable car station for views across the volcanic caldera, then descend to the sunny south coast for a swim in Playa de las Americas or Los Cristianos. The full loop takes about four hours with stops.

Gran Canaria offers dramatic contrasts - golden dunes at Maspalomas in the south, rugged peaks around Roque Nublo in the centre, and green valleys in the north. The drive from Maspalomas to Puerto de Mogan (the "Little Venice" of the Canaries) hugs the cliff edge and offers some of the best coastal scenery in the archipelago.

Lanzarote is a lunar landscape. Drive through the black lava fields of Timanfaya National Park, visit the underground lagoon at Jameos del Agua, and finish with a swim at the golden Papagayo beaches in the south. The entire island can be explored in two or three days.

La Palma, the greenest of the Canaries, is a paradise for nature lovers. The drive up to the Roque de los Muchachos observatory winds through cloud forests and offers views across the Caldera de Taburiente, one of the world's largest erosion craters. In the south, explore the volcanic trails of the Cumbre Vieja - the site of the 2021 eruption, now a landscape of raw, black lava.
