4Drive is a car rental provider operating across the Canary Islands since 2018. We serve winter-sun tourists and year-round visitors flying into Tenerife South (TFS), Tenerife North (TFN), Gran Canaria (LPA), Lanzarote (ACE) and La Palma (SPC). Our mission is simple: make car hire accessible to everyone, regardless of whether you hold a credit card or want to leave a large deposit.
We are a direct rental provider, not an aggregator. When you book through 4drivecanaryislands.com, you deal directly with us from enquiry through to vehicle return. Our fleet includes economy hatchbacks, compact automatics, family SUVs and convertibles for open-top coastal drives. Every rental includes full insurance with zero excess, unlimited mileage and 24/7 roadside assistance.
Why 4Drive?
Most car rental companies in Spain require a credit card and place a hold of EUR 500-1500 on it for the duration of your hire. That locks up your holiday spending money for days or weeks. 4Drive removes that barrier. You can pay the full rental amount by debit card, bank transfer or cash when you collect the vehicle. No hold, no deposit, no stress.
Our full insurance policy covers collision damage waiver (CDW), theft protection, glass, tyres and undercarriage. If anything happens to the car, your liability is zero (provided you haven't violated traffic laws or driven recklessly). You're never asked for a credit card imprint or authorisation at pickup. This approach has made us popular with families, younger drivers and international visitors who prefer debit cards or cash.
Our Service Areas
We cover all four main islands in the Canary archipelago:
- Tenerife - pickup at Tenerife South Airport (TFS, Reina Sofia), Tenerife North Airport (TFN, Los Rodeos), Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos, Puerto de la Cruz and anywhere across the island.
- Gran Canaria - pickup at Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) and delivery to Maspalomas, Playa del Ingles, Puerto Rico, Las Palmas.
- Lanzarote - pickup at Lanzarote Airport (ACE) and delivery to Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise.
- La Palma - pickup at La Palma Airport (SPC) and delivery across the island.
Hotel delivery and collection is available at no extra charge for stays of three days or more. If you're staying at a resort in Costa Adeje or Playa de las Americas, we bring the car to your hotel lobby and collect it again when you're done. Airport pickups are the most popular option because you can start exploring immediately after landing.
Our Fleet
Our Canary Islands fleet ranges from the Fiat Panda (from EUR 18 per day) to the VW T-Roc Cabrio convertible (from EUR 58 per day). Popular mid-range choices include the Seat Ibiza automatic (EUR 27/day) and the Seat Arona compact SUV (EUR 35/day), ideal for drives up to Teide National Park or along the winding roads to Masca. All vehicles are less than two years old, serviced regularly and equipped with air conditioning, ABS and electronic stability control.
Automatic gearboxes are available across the range (except the cheapest Fiat Panda). If you're not confident with a manual in hilly terrain, opt for an automatic. The Canary Islands have steep mountain roads, and an automatic makes hairpin bends and Teide ascents far less stressful.
Booking Process
Booking through 4Drive takes less than five minutes. Enter your pickup location, dates and preferred vehicle category into our widget. You'll see an instant quote. If you're happy, proceed to the booking form: name, email, flight details (if collecting at the airport), driving licence number and payment method (debit card, bank transfer or cash). We send confirmation by email within one hour.
Closer to your pickup date, we send another email with our office address (for airport pickups) or your hotel meeting time (for deliveries). At pickup, bring your passport, driving licence and the booking confirmation. EU licences are valid throughout Spain; drivers from outside the EU should carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside their home licence. Minimum age is 21; drivers under 25 pay a young-driver supplement of EUR 10 per day.
Payment by Debit Card or Cash
When you collect the vehicle, you pay the outstanding balance (if you haven't already paid by bank transfer). We accept Visa Debit, Mastercard Debit and cash in euros. There is no hold or pre-authorisation. Once you've paid, we hand over the keys and vehicle documents. You're free to explore the island.
At the end of your rental, return the car to the agreed location (airport office or hotel) with the same fuel level. We inspect the vehicle together. If everything is in order, that's it - no further charges, no post-rental surprises. If you've bought a full-to-empty fuel option, you can return the car empty and we refund nothing (you've pre-paid for a full tank).
Full Insurance Included
Every 4Drive rental includes comprehensive insurance with zero excess. Collision damage waiver (CDW), theft protection, glass, tyres, undercarriage and third-party liability are all covered. There is no excess to pay if you have an accident (as long as you haven't driven recklessly or violated traffic laws). Roadside assistance is available 24/7 via our emergency hotline (number provided at pickup).
Additional drivers can be added for EUR 5 per day per driver. Both drivers must present their licence and passport at pickup. If you plan to take the car to another island via ferry (e.g. Tenerife to La Gomera, or Lanzarote to Fuerteventura), ask us in advance. Island-hopping with a rental car requires approval from the rental provider and may incur an extra charge.
Our Values
At 4Drive, transparency and fairness come first. We never surprise you with hidden charges. The price you see at booking is the price you pay. Fuel policy, insurance and mileage are clearly stated in your confirmation. If you want extras (child seat, GPS, additional driver, full-to-empty fuel), we list those costs upfront.
We treat every customer the same, whether you're renting a Fiat Panda for three days or a convertible for three weeks. Our staff speak English, Spanish and German. We know the islands well and are happy to recommend routes: the drive up to Teide, the coastal road to Los Gigantes, the green north of Tenerife via Anaga, the dunes of Maspalomas in Gran Canaria, the volcanic landscapes of Timanfaya in Lanzarote, or the Caldera de Taburiente in La Palma.
Why the Canary Islands?
The Canary Islands enjoy year-round sunshine, but peak season runs from November through March when northern Europe is cold and grey. Winter temperatures hover around 22-26 degrees Celsius, perfect for beach days, hiking and sightseeing. The islands are volcanic, so landscapes range from black-sand beaches and lava fields to pine forests and high-altitude deserts (Teide is Spain's tallest peak at 3,718 metres).
Driving is on the right-hand side. The motorways (TF-1 and TF-5 in Tenerife, GC-1 in Gran Canaria) are excellent and toll-free. Fuel is cheaper than on the Spanish mainland thanks to low local taxes. Mountain roads require care - they're steep, winding and often narrow - but the views are worth it. Allow extra time if you're driving to Teide, Masca or Anaga. GPS or Google Maps works reliably across the islands, though phone signal can drop in remote mountain areas.
Customer Support
Our office hours are 07:00 - 23:00 daily. Outside those hours, our emergency roadside assistance line is available 24/7 for breakdowns, accidents or urgent queries. If you have a flat tyre, mechanical issue or collision, call the number on your rental agreement and we'll send help. Most repairs can be handled within an hour; if the car is undriveable, we'll arrange a replacement vehicle.

Environmental Commitment
We're phasing in hybrid and electric vehicles across our fleet. The Canary Islands have growing EV charging infrastructure, particularly in Tenerife and Gran Canaria. By 2025, we plan to offer at least 30% low-emission vehicles. If you'd like to rent a hybrid or EV, ask when booking - availability depends on location and season.
